Attribute Analysis & Consulting by Lynn Inc.
Lynn Inc. has worked closely with Resolve Geosciences over the past several years to help understand the meaning and usefulness of the attributes currently available. Lynn Inc. assists clients at an early stage of understanding the use of these attributes — often in conjunction with other attributes (such as inversion products, azimuthal and isotropic velocity, and AVO and spectral decomposition volumes). A preliminary report of the attributes is supplied with most deliveries from Resolve, as well as their participation in initial meetings with clients to review and explain the supplied attributes. In more mature plays, they can help look for and quantify relationships between reservoir properties and attributes, either individually or in combination. Products delivered by Lynn Inc. include production (or some other reservoir property) maps based on linear and/or non-linear combinations of attributes along with a PowerPoint report detailing the logic and steps involved in making such maps.
ABOUT LYNN INC.
Founded in January 1985, Lynn Inc. is a privately owned company held by Drs. Heloise and Walt Lynn. Short biographies of Heloise and Walt are given below. Please visit their website for more information.
Heloise Lynn started work in oil company seismics in 1975. After finishing her PhD in geophysics at Stanford University (1980), she started working for Amoco in Houston. Amoco in the early 1980s was quite interested in anisotropy: Dr. Lynn worked with Dr. Leon Thomsen and Rusty Alford from 1981-1984 on applications of shear wave anisotropy and P-wave anisotropy. Since forming Lynn Inc in 1985, she has consulted in the acquisition, processing, and interpretation of multi-azimuth P-wave and shear-wave projects for the purpose of fracture characterization and reservoir development. She is now considered one of the leading experts in this field — a fact that is underscored by being the SEG and AAPG Distinguished Lecturer for the Fall of 2004. Her lecture is found in The Leading Edge, Nov and Dec, 2004.
Walt Lynn received a bachelor's degree (with high honors) in geology and geophysics from Princeton University in 1973, completed his master's degree in geophysics while studying at the Oceanography Department at Oregon State University in 1975, and obtained his Ph.D. degree in geophysics from Stanford University in 1979. Subsequent to finishing his degrees, Walt has spent his career in the seismic service sector of the oil and gas industry — 11 years with Western Geophysical and 11 years with Petroleum Geo-Services (PGS). He has held geophysical positions within R&D groups, has managed R&D divisions, and has run operations for worldwide data processing. He is currently Chief Operating Officer for Lynn Inc., specializing in multi-azimuth, multi-component 3-D seismic acquisition, processing, and interpretation. Walt is a Past-President of the Society of Exploration Geophysicists and is also a member of GSH, NSG, EAGE, ASEG, Sigma Xi, Phi Kappa Phi and the Russian Academy of Natural Sciences.
